1186 vigne

11.86

The work of a craftsman for a glittering brand

The story dates back to 1811, the first exceptional vintage in the history of wine. According to growers, it was brought about by extraordinary weather conditions. Or did it occur due to the passage of the great comet, called Napoleon’s Comet? If legends merge into history, this special year also marks the creation of the oldest Loire Valley sparkling wine company: Maison Ackerman. Founded by Jean-Baptiste Ackerman, its méthode traditionnelle quickly met with success and radiated outside of France.

The adventure continued in 1886, at the heart of the Valley of the Kings and France’s largest troglodyte site, with the creation of a second house founded by Alcide Monmousseau. In no time the reputation of this house for blending was unequalled.

As a result, 11.86 – an incarnation of refined bubbles – was created from the art of premium sparkling winemaking, associated with age-old expertise. Combining the expertise of two great houses, it is an innovative ambitious brand: exceptional and worthy of the finest restaurants worldwide.

Meilleurs Terroirs associates the ancestral expertise of these houses under the 11.86 brand, the essence of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. As a result, 11.86 benefits from a priceless know-how, combining tradition and modernity, with small blends and made to measure winemaking, true craftsmanship for a glittering brand.

11.86 brings together the best of Orchidées, Maisons de Vin’s two great sparkling wines houses. The art of blending on one hand, via the Touraine sparkling wine house, founded by Alcide Monmousseau in 1886. And audacity on the other hand, brought about by the spirit of innovation of Saumur’s first sparkling wine house, founded by Jean-Baptiste Ackerman in 1811.

Our wines

Presentation of our wines

This wine is made out of a blend of two products derived from two terroirs: chalky-clay offering freshness, and gravelly soil providing fruit and complexity. The grapes are handpicked and carefully sorted to extract the best fruit. Maturing on lees in tuffeau stone galleries helps to control and maintain constant temperatures and humidity, well suited to the proper ageing of this excellent wine.
